Fish Anna Maria Island With A Local Charter Fishing Guide

August Tampa Bay Fishing Report-2018

August Tampa Bay Fishing Report-2018

—Fishing around Anna Maria Island and Tampa Bay remains fantastic this month, despite a pretty serious red tide bloom to our south. Admittedly, conditions may have been a little challenging at times this month but we’ve been catching a lot of nice fish. The algae bloom moves around each day, making some areas out of reach but Tampa Bay is still pristine, and full of fish.

—My clients have been catching snook, seatrout, spanish mackeral, mangrove snapper, gag grouper and sharks inside Tampa Bay and around Egmont Key this month. There is still a ton of bait around Tampa Bay and all of these gamefish are going wild chasing it!

—Nearshore Gulf of Mexico waters have been clean and the fishing has been fantastic out there too. I am fishing ledges and natural hard bottom for gag & red grouper, mangrove snapper, hogfish, porgies, grunts and flounder.

—The bottom line this month is that yes, there is some red tide to work around, but there are plenty of hungry fish, and clean water, within a 5 minute ride of Anna Maria Island.
