Redfish, Snook, Trout
—With the spring break crowds thinning out, and water temps pushing up, the inshore bite in Tampa and Sarasota Bay is on. Fishing around Anna Maria Island for snook, seatrout and redfish the past couple weeks has provided a bunch of good action for my clients.
—Live whitebait has been the bait of choice, and I’m finding snook along mangrove shorelines, oyster bars, docks, and channel edges. The majority are sub-slot juveniles, but catching a few big boys each week mixed in. Trout are in full spawn mode, and beginning to fill in the bay. Seeing plenty right around the keeper 15″ mark, and some to 24″. Redfish are still showing up around docks, and on the flats. This week I’m seeing some of the biggest redfish of the year. Big baits like hand sized pinfish and silver mullet are getting the nod for these fish.
