—Fishing this week’s strong tides has produced some amazing days on the flats. Both sides of the tides have produced very well . Snook redfish and trout have been on the move, invading the mangroves, potholes, and the grass flats of Tampa Bay. Live shiners have been the bait of choice, although lures and flies have been taking plenty of fish on our charters this week as well.
—Snook and redfish and trout are moving along their fall migration routes, pouring back into Tampa Bay from the Gulf beaches. Large schools of bait fish are also following this routes. When predator and prey meet, it has been on.! I have been chumming heavily to locate schools of redfish over deeper grass flats in the bay. Once we have a school located, I will push-pole my way in front of the school and quietly set up and start charming. Popping corks on a 30 pound test fluorocarbon leader keep are beat out of the grass while remaining stealthy. Match your hook size to the size shiner you were able to catch that day.
