—As May rolls around here on Anna Maria Island, the temperatures and the fishing opportunities are on the rise.
—This is one of the last of the springtime “transition months.” We still have the near-perfect combination of water temps and weather, plenty of baitfish, all coinciding with migrations of gamefish like; tarpon, gag grouper, snook, redfish, seatrout, spanish mackerel, black drum and more inside Tampa Bay, and surrounding areas.
—My clients are enjoying catch and release snook, seatrout and redfish in the bays, river and along the mangrove shorelines. And they are taking a few mangrove snapper and/or Spanish mackerel home for dinner. When conditions like the weather and tides are right, the end of May can also provide some great tarpon fishing right on the beaches and passes adjacent to Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key.
