—As May rolls around here on Anna Maria Island, the temperatures and the fishing opportunities are on the rise. 

—This is one of the last of the springtime “transition months.” We still have the near-perfect combination of water temps and weather, plenty of baitfish, all coinciding with migrations of gamefish like; tarpon, gag grouper, snook, redfish, seatrout, spanish mackerel, black drum and more inside Tampa Bay, and surrounding areas.

Incredible Fishing During April 2020

—April has some of the most incredible fishing opportunities around Anna Maria Island and Tampa bay.

—Nearshore, gag grouper provide a big pull, and a great fight, but they are still out of season until June 1 and must be released alive. Mangrove snapper and Spanish mackerel fill the void for dinner out there in the same areas.

March 2020 Anna Maria Island Fishing

—As March 2020 rolls around, fishing inside Tampa Bay and Anna Maria Island starts to heat up. Chilly mornings begin to give way to picture perfect weather by late morning. My clients have been thrilled to have some incredible snook action so early in the year. We are targeting the linesiders during strong tides, using live shiners, around mangrove points, cuts, sandbars and docks. We are seeing a few bonus redfish mixed in with the snook.

October 2019 Fishing “Turns On”

—October 2019 fishing around Bradenton and Anna Maria Island has been as exciting as it gets. The weather was on a welcome “cooling trend,” and the fish started to get excited as well. There were redfish dumping out of the rivers with each rainstorm, providing some great opportunities to catch and release mature redfish in shallow water.
