Anna Maria Island Fishing Report – August, 2017

Anna Maria Island Fishing Guide
Captain Aaron Lowman – August, 2017
Snook, Permit

—The fishing has been fantastic so far around Anna Maria Island in August. The weather is scorching, but the bite has been pretty good despite the high temperatures.

—My clients are having a blast catching loads of spanish mackeral and mangrove snapper around inshore and nearshore structure – in and around Tampa Bay this month.
Barracuda, permit, sharks and cobia are welcome additions to a day on the nearshore reefs.
—Inshore, the snook bite remains strong. We are finding big groups of male snook (generally < 25″) around mangrove cuts and edges, on big moving tides. The majority of the larger female snook are offshore breeding, and will begin their return inshore in September.
—I haven’t fished for, or even seen many tarpon so far this month.
There may be one more push of fish out of Tampa Bay around the new moon on 8/22.
Stay tuned!
