—As May rolls around here on Anna Maria Island, the temperatures and the fishing opportunities are on the rise.
—This is one of the last of the springtime “transition months.” We still have the near-perfect combination of water temps and weather, plenty of baitfish, all coinciding with migrations of gamefish like; tarpon, gag grouper, snook, redfish, seatrout, spanish mackerel, black drum and more inside Tampa Bay, and surrounding areas.

—It’s unusual to have a beautiful, calm day in February with no obligations so I decided to take advantage of the situation and try to find some big mangrove snapper in the Gulf. I called my Dad and we ran out about 20 miles to an area consisting of several small ledges within a couple hundred yards of each other. December Tampa Bay/Anna Maria Fishing
—What a beautiful fishing month we had here around Anna Maria Island. December 2018 was one for the books! We finally saw a complete reprieve from the ferocious red tide outbreak of this summer. This combined with a long stretch of great weather, provided some outstanding fishing opportunities in and around Anna Maria Island and Tampa Bay.

This has made fishing a little more challenging than usual over the past couple of months but that being said, my clients and I have been experiencing some fantastic fishing despite the bad news.

—Fishing around Anna Maria Island and Tampa Bay remains fantastic this month, despite a pretty serious red tide bloom to our south. Admittedly, conditions may have been a little challenging at times this month but we’ve been catching a lot of nice fish. The algae bloom moves around each day, making some areas out of reach but Tampa Bay is still pristine, and full of fish.
