Exciting Summer Fishing- May & June 2019

—It has been an action-packed May and start to the month of June for fishing around Anna Maria Island and Tampa Bay. Fishing has been red hot, with lots of action on many different species.

—The state of Florida has wisely chosen to give our inshore game fish; snook, redfish and seatrout, a break and placed them under an emergency closure for the foreseeable future to allow them to recover from the devastating red tide of 2018. 

—No need to despair if a fresh-caught fish dinner is on your radar. My clients are finding mangrove snapper, gag grouper, spanish mackerel, cobia and flounder to invite home for dinner. As far as catch and release action, I’m finding plenty of snook, redfish and seatrout inshore in shallow water. Tarpon and sharks are very active and plentiful on the Gulf beaches along Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key. And we have been catching permit on the near shore wrecks and reefs.
